THE LEO LAB
THE LEO LAB was founded in the Spring of 2016 by Lucy Charles, Emma Rye and Olivia MacFadden-Elliott, as a laboratory theatre with a collaborative approach to text work and devised performance.
With a shared yearning for a creative outlet, a desire to devise, write and perform, we were tired by the theatrical opportunities that were available to us (or lack thereof) so we decided to invest in and create our own work! We re-envision classical texts as well as write original stories. We aim to blur the borders between the traditional approach to theatre-making, using social media to connect us, and collaborating with artists and academics, and ultimately stripping away anything that does not serve the story.
From our common beginning as Drama and Theatre Studies students at Royal Holloway University of London, we have travelled extensively, following career paths into drama, linguistics, writing and education. Our varied experiences encourage a diverse approach to working with text, dramaturgy and performance.
We refer to our theatre company as a 'laboratory' to highlight the importance of experimentation, exploration, discovery and, most importantly, process.
